Remote Monitoring System for Telecommunications Networks and Energy Management: Case Study in Base Stations of the Río Santiago – Amazonas

Stefhanie Milagros Jaramillo Huamán, Darwin Auccapuri Quispetupa

23rd LACCEI International Multi-Conference for Engineering, Education and Technology. Ciudad de México, 16–18 de julio de 2025

Resumen EN

This paper presents an integrated remote monitoring system for telecommunication networks and energy management in rural areas, developed for the connectivity project in Rio Santiago, Condorcanqui, Amazonas. It uses open source platforms such as Prometheus, InfluxDB and Grafana to monitor critical parameters in real time. A key challenge was to integrate non-SNMP compliant equipment, such as solar energy controllers, which was achieved through custom exporters and alternative protocols. The system offers unified monitoring, scalability, proactive alerts and advanced analytics, contributing to project sustainability and reliability in a challenging Amazonian environment.

Development of 4G base station for rural areas based on LimeSDR

Luis Ramos Torres, Darwin Auccapuri Quispetupa, César Córdova Bernuy

23rd LACCEI International Multi-Conference for Engineering, Education and Technology. Ciudad de México, 16–18 de julio de 2025

Resumen EN

Rural areas in Peru still suffer from a significant lack of mobile coverage, as operators do not find it profitable to invest in these regions due to geographical challenges, infrastructure requirements and economic constraints of the inhabitants. This research proposes the development of a 4G base station prototype for low population density rural areas using SDR technology with the LimeSDR model. Performance evaluation was carried out through local testing with the VoLTE service, using network parameter measurement tools, allowing optimizations for future deployments in rural environments.

Resumen EN

Many of the energy systems functioning across the developing world are poorly designed and largely inadequate to meet a country's commercial and domestic energy needs. This is especially so in Latin America, where poverty trends have been exacerbated by limited access to energy. This phenomenon poses a major barrier towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals and addressing climate change, since lack of access to reliable energy generation systems hinders the development of economic activities and limits the comfort of living conditions. This paper reports on a study aimed at catering to a better understanding of the challenges related to energy poverty in Latin America and identifying some of the tools that may be deployed to address them. The methodological procedures used were bibliometric analysis and survey. The main findings evidence that reducing energy poverty in Latin American countries is crucial to alleviating household costs, since a considerable part of family income is used to pay energy needs. Less use of coal, greater access to electricity — including from renewable generation — as well as the use of technologies and programs subsidized by governments would significantly contribute to increasing quality of life and achieving the SDGs.
